Special Events fees

The Costa Mesa City Council voted three to one to lower the cost charged to support special events in the city.

Because of complaints by the Orange County Fair and the OC Marathon, the city looked into the rates it charged and found it was the highest in all of Orange County.

Costa Mesa CEO Tom Hatch recommended dropping indirect overhead costs to become more competitive for events while still covering all of the city’s direct costs. He predicted that an increase in events would offset the lower price and bring more money into the city.

Some lcoal residents called this “corporate welfare.”
