massage law proposed for Costa Mesa

Costa Mesa is considering a new massage establishments and practitioners ordinance.

The old city ordinance was invalidated by a new California law setting statewide standards enforced by the new California Massage Therapy Council.

Costa Mesa Police Lieutenant Mark Manley indicated that the proposed city ordinance would be as tough on prostitution as the new state law allows.

Manley claimed that prostitution is a growing and serious problem in Costa Mesa, based on regular and undercover investigations of massage establishments.

A final vote will be held at the July 19 City Council meeting.
